Meet The Inventor - Jill Henneberg

Jill Henneberg was chosen as a member of the USA’s Silver Medal Team for the Atlanta Olympics in the ultimate test of horsemanship—Three Day Eventing. From the poise of the dressage ring to the business of riding over the most demanding cross country course imaginable and finishing with the challenge of formal show jumping, only a very few are chosen to represent this country. Jill has had the privilege to be one of them. Now taking a break from world class competition, Jill teaches private students. Through luck and a touch of inspiration, she developed the Correct Connect™ teaching system and formed a business to market her invention.

The Correct Connect™ system comes complete with a set of notched leather reins partially covered with Velcro, and a pair of gloves, similar to those used by equine competitors throughout the world. The only difference is the Velcro inserts on the palms and thumbs. Together, these reins and gloves help riders maintain a steady contact on the horse’s mouth by keeping the reins at a reliable length on both sides of the bit. With Velcro covering only the palms and thumbs, the rider’s fingers are left free to supple the horse.

“I found consistent contact and rein length was difficult for most of my students,” says Jill. “By using Correct Connect™, every lesson is pleasant and learning rein management becomes almost instinctive, which is what we all want. With the system my students move ahead quicker, getting into the fun of riding faster, with less time spent on learning the basics. This system is not just for the beginner. I use it myself when I am getting used to a new horse. I think once people have tried and used Correct Connect™, it will be found in every serious rider’s tack box.”
